New Delhi, Aug. 13 : Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said that the Congress Party’s real intention during the Monsoon Session was to not let the country’s economy grow and added that they used ‘lung power’ to try and halt the progress.
“No major legislation was possible. It (Monsoon Session) has been frustrating but educating for the nation. The Congress seems to have the clear policy of hampering any government that isn’t their own. This was a disruption without a cause. This session saw many lows,” Jaitley told the media here.
Taking a jibe at Rahul Gandhi, Jaitley said that the Congress vice-president can’t differentiate between a Parliament speech and slogans.
“For the first time in our history, a supreme leader of a mainstream party entered the well of the House. The Congress Party’s real intent was to not let the economy grow, they used ‘lung power’ to try and halt the progress,” he said.
The Finance Minister also said India stands educated about the Congress Party and the family which controls it.
“Ours wasn’t a protest march but an attempt to highlight that one cannot have disruption without a cause. The opposition’s aim was to delay the GST Bill. I can’t tell you our strategy, but we are determined that it happens by April 1,” he added.
The Monsoon session saw the Congress and other opposition parties refusing to allow any business unless BJP leaders caught in controversies were removed and lost over 82 hours in the 17-day session.
The Rajya Sabha worked for just over nine hours in the Monsoon Session which ended today with key legislation like the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill pending.
The Congress has demanded the resignation of Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, alleging that she had committed a crime by helping tainted former IPL chief Lalit Modi with urgent travel documents in the UK last year. (ANI)
