Congress, TRS workers clash in Mahbubnagar district

The campaigning for the April 30th polling in Telangana came to an end today on a violent note in Mahabubnagar district.
In their desperate move to race against time on the last day of campaigning, the Congress and TRS workers came face to face in Choudharypally village in the district. This triggered off heated exchanges leading to a clash as both sides indulged in attacking each other with sticks and stones resulting in juries to many.
As the situation was taking a serious turn, the police, who descended on the scene, resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the warring groups. They did not spare even women in the process and many of them received lathi injuries.
The excise officils also conducted lightning searches in the farm house of a Congress leader in Aleru of Kodangal mandal in the district and seized liquor worth Rs. Four lakhs allegedly stored for distribution on the polling day.
Telangana Congress Committee President Ponnala Lakshmaiah had to face an embarrassing and bitter experience when he went to seek the support of the electorate of the Weavers Colony in his Assembly Constituency of Jangoan in Warangal district. As he was moving about pleading with the people to vote for him with folded hands, a student Vijaybhaskar tried to hurl a slipper at him. The Congress workers who noticed this, immediately overpowered the student and beat him up mercilessly. Stunned by the incident, the TCC President abruptly cut short his canvassing and left the place.(NSS).
