Congress Telangana MPs for withdrawal of G.O. 177

Hyderabad, April 18: Congress MPs from Telangana have demanded that the government should completely withdraw the controversial G.O. 177 as it was loaded against the working class of the region.

At a meeting on Sunday, Congress MPs – G. Vivekananda, Gutha Sukhender Reddy, S. Rajaiah and Ponnam Prabhakar – flayed the State government for issuing the G.O. when the movement for separate State was at its peak. They said people would not remain silent till the government dropped the G.O. and alleged that its objective was to crush the Telangana movement.

Mr. Vivekananda said the G.O. should be fully withdrawn and not kept in abeyance. He demanded that government withdraw the GO as it was passed only to suppress the interest and rights of employees and people of Telangana region.

Intention

“The intention behind the G.O. is to target the Telangana sentiment and not the employees,” he said.

The meeting is understood to have taken serious view of the Chapter 8 of Justice Srikrishna Committee. “Where is the need to include the particular chapter, when there is no mention in the Terms of Reference?” Mr. Vivekananda questioned. He demanded that the government drop any move to appeal against the single judge verdict on Chapter 8.

‘Spell out stand’

Ponnam Prabhakar said YSR Congress party should spell out its stand on Telangana before the Kadapa bye-elections. “We will not allow the party flag to flutter in the region unless its president spells out the stand on Telangana,” he added.
