The Congress, TDP and TRS members on Friday vied with each other to own former Prime Minister late P V Narsimha Rao, who had risen to the highest post in the country.
Intervening during the debate on draft Telangana Bill in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reacted when TRS floor leader Etela Rajender alleged that Seemandhra leaders had toppled P V Narasimha Rao, who hailed from Telangana, from chief minister’s post within six moths after assuming office. Objecting to the remark, Kiran reminded that it was the Seemandhra people, who had elected P V Narasimha Rao to the Lok Sabha, after he became Prime Minister of India. At that time, the Telangana people were averse to elect PV to Parliament.
Referring to the allegation of the TRS floor leader that no Advocate General was selected from Telangana in 56 years history of united Andhra Pradesh, the CM countered why a Telangana person was not appointed as Advocate General of the State during the regimes of four chief ministers from Telangana region. He clarified that present Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy was his senior in the college.
NAIDU RAPS CONG. FOR HUMILIATING PV
Later, Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu launched a scathing attack on the Congress for downsizing importance of P V after his death. He reminded that the TDP did not field its candidate against Narasimha Rao giving great respect to the Telugu leader, who occupied all-powerful seat in the country. Reminding that PV had served the nation for five years as Prime Minister of the Country and worked for the Congress throughout his life, Naidu alleged Congress high priests did not agree to place PV’s body in the AICC office in New Delhi for public darshan. There were Ghats in New Delhi for late Prime Ministers, who served for merely six months to one year in office, but PV Narasimha Rao, who steered the minority government for full term of five years, was deprived of a Ghat in the national capital. Is this not a great insult to the entire Telugu people?, he asked. (NSS)
