TRS leader K Prabhakar today accused the previous Congress and TDP governments of benefiting civil contractors in the name of taking up irrigation projects like Thotapalli and Dummugudem. These two projects, though were not completed, the contractors swindled money at the behest of the previous governments, he alleged.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Prabhakar alleged that then Congress and Telugu Desam governments ruined the entire irrigation and agriculture sectors. Now, the TRS government was revamping these sectors which hold key for rapid development of the State, he said, adding that the State government was all set to make design changes for Pranahitha-Chevella project in order to get lakhs of acres under irrigation and improve yield.
Prabhakar pointed out that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had already told people before elections that there was a need for design change in Pranahitha-Chevella project which has a snag or lapse. “To keep that promise and to provide waters to more crops, we are planning to make changes in the design. Then only It would be possible to supply waters to Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts by completing the Palamur and Dindi projects”, he added. Necessary changes will be made despite the hue and cry of the Opposition, he said.
The TRS leader said Telangana State is supposed to get 1280 tmc of waters which could irrigate one crore acres. The Opposition was indulging in cheap politics for political mileage through continuing baseless comments on the projects and welfare, he charged. (NSS)
