The protest, led by UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, began at the busy Civil Lines crossing in the city where the Congress workers raised slogans against “lawlessness prevailing under BSP rule in Uttar Pradesh” and smeared a poster of Chief Minister Mayawati with black colour.

The procession, thereafter, proceeded towards the office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Allahabad, situated five kilometers away.

The Congress activists gheraoed the DIG’s office for close to an hour and registered a strong protest against a recent incident in which armed robbers had shot dead a jewellery shop owner and decamped with valuables worth more than Rs one crore.
