Congress Party on Monday took potshots at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for using derogatory language against Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in his address at the BJP”s National Council meeting.
Congress Spokesperson P.C. Chacko said the derogatory language that Modi used in that meeting against the honourable Prime Minister of the country is unbecoming of a leader of his stature.
“It would be worthwhile mentioning that the allies of the NDA are also apprehensive of associating with such leadership. And also it was evident that some senior members of his own party tend to ignore him while praising other colleagues,” he added.
Chacko further termed Modi”s Gujarat development story as a publicity stunt, and said that growth was mainly due to the policies pursued by the Central Government and the UPA”s flagship programmes
Addressing a BJP conclave here on Sunday, Modi suggested that Pranab Mukherjee would have been a better choice for the Prime Minister”s post but the Congress chose Manmohan Singh as ”night watchman” for it was worried that his success could affect the Gandhi family”s future.
“Had Pranab Mukherjee been made the Prime Minister in place of Manmohan Singh then perhaps there would not have suffered so much damage as he is more connected to the ground, understands the problems and can think about the solutions,” he told the gathering.
BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani yesterday shifted focus from Modi, considered by many to be the BJP”s Prime Ministerial candidate, and lauded Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj at the BJP”s conclave. He said that Swaraj with her brilliant speech on the way ahead has left him with nothing to say. (ANI)
