The Congress party on Wednesday expressed its surprise over the Bharatiya Janata Party ‘s (BJP) decision in choosing Amit Shah as its party president.
“It is unprecedented to find the party in power running the government appointing freshly a person as President who is an accused in a murder charge, is on bail, and has been externed from a state of India for two years under Supreme Court orders from 2010 to 2012.And the externment was on the basis of a possible influencing of matters by the person. The nation is obviously mystified as to how no other better talent is available in the BJP except a murder accused on bail and a person formally externed for two years from one part of India,” Abhishek Manu Singhvi said at a press conference.
Earlier today the BJP announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s close aide and general secretary Amit Shah will take over as the party’s new president from previous incumbent and now Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
The BJP Parliamentary Board met, where Rajnath Singh formally submitted his resignation from the post. His resignation was accepted in the meeting.
Announcing the party’s decision, Rajnath Singh said, “The BJP Parliamentary Board approves the appointment of Amit Shah as the BJP National President.”
He ( Amit Shah) has all the capabilities and management skills required for the strengthening of organization,” Rajnath added. (ANI)
