Bharuch:Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel today advocated reservation for economically backward classes(EBCs) of non-reserved category, including Patel community.
Patel, who was here for a function, also urged the Patel quota leaders to maintain peace during their protests.
“Our party has already made it’s stand clear about the issue of reservation. We believe that without disturbing the quota meant for SC,ST and OBCs, government can think of giving reservation to all those communities, including Patel’s, who are economically weak and poor,” Patel told reporters.
“There is no harm in giving reservation to such communities who are not getting the benefits of reservation at present. But ultimately, it is the government who has to take a call on it and take necessary steps” said Patel.
“No one should take law in their own hands. This agitation was peaceful when it started. I hope that no untoward incident takes place in Rajkot(during ODI) today. I hope that lives of innocent persons are not lost” said Patel.
