The main Opposition Congress party today staged a walkout in protest against the House refusing to give a clarification on the rape case of a Dalit girl in Veenavanka of Karimnagar district.
Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy tried in vain to get clarification from treasury benches on the rape case. When he insisted on clarification, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy rejected his appeal. Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao read out the rule of the procedures and urged the chair not to give permission for clarification on the issue as Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy has already made a statement in the House. Since the Home Minister himself gave a statement with all details, there was no need for any more clarifications, he asserted.
Harish Rao observed that Jana Reddy is the senior-most leader in the House and well versed with the legislature procedures. “The government is ready to take up any other issue and give clarification”, he said. With this, Jana Reddy expressed displeasure and walked out of the House along with other Congress members.
Earlier, Congress Deputy Leader T Jeevan Reddy registered his angst at the chair for denying them to talk on the rape case in Karimnagar district. Denial of a debate on the rape case can be attributed to the government’s negligence on atrocities against Dalit community, he said and suspected that the police are hand in glove with the culprits in the case.
Narsimha Reddy earlier read out a statement that the government has ordered an inquiry besides taking action against a couple of police officials. A fast track court will be set up to deal with such a case and take stringent steps after a forensic report followed by a medical report, Narsimha Reddy said. (NSS)
