Congress slams KCR for hunger strike threat

The Congress party on Sunday condemned Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao for threatening to go on hunger strike over the issue of Krishna Tribunal.

Talking to reporters at the Congress Legislature Party, Congress MLA K Lakshma Reddy described Chandrasekhar Rao’s threat as a political drama being enacted to get mileage in the by-elections. He alleged that the TRS president was trying to mislead the people of the region by stating that injustice was being done to the region by Krishna Tribunal. He said the Supreme Court was yet to give its final judgment on the Krishna Tribunal and if KCR has any genuine suggestions then he would convey the same instead of politicising the issue.

Lakshma Reddy said that the ruling party was ready to convene an all-party meeting on the issue. He appealed to KCR not to incite the sentiments of people in Telangana region over the Krishna Tribunal issue.

The Congress MLA also condemned the reports which said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was against the Telangana issue. He said the Chief Minister never spoke against or in favour of separate Telangana. However, he has always maintained a stand that he would abide the Centre’s decision the statehood issue.

He said the Chief Minister was in favour of equal development of all regions in the State and signing of MoU on Pranahita-Chevella project with the Maharashtra Government proves his commitment for the region.
