Congress senior leader and former Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy has strongly criticised the BJP-led NDA Government for omitting the picture of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru from the Children’s Day advertisement published by the Union Women and Child Development Ministry.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Jaipal Reddy alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministers were behaving in an arrogant manner by not giving due importance to national leaders. He said Pandit Nehru and his family members have made many sacrifices for the country. By omitting Pandit Nehru’s picture from the advertisement, the BJP Government is trying to set a wrong precedent of intolerance.
Addressing a separate press conference, Greater Hyderabad Congress president Danam Nagender also condemned the omission of Pandit Nehru’s photograph from the advertisements. He said that the act was an insult to all those participated in the freedom movement.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao and other Congress leaders staged a dharna at Pandit Nehru’s statue at Abids in protest. (INN)
