The Congress on Tuesday criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for referring to people from the North-East states in its recently released ‘vision document’ as ‘immigrants’, ahead of the Delhi assembly polls.
“The BJP’s vision document says ‘North-East immigrants to be protected’. Does the BJP then consider them to be from some other country? Does the BJP want to say that the North Eastern states are not a part of India, are the North Eastern people not Indians?” Congress leader Ajay Maken said to the media.
Earlier in the day, the BJP unveiled its ‘vision’ for the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, promising to make Delhi a ‘world class’ city and to resolve pending problems of water, electricity and transportation.
The national capital has witnessed a number of alleged racial attacks against people from the North East. Last year, 19-year old Nido Taniam was beaten to death in the Lajpat Nagar area of the city after getting into a brawl with a local shopkeeper while reacting to a verbal racial slur. (ANI)
