Congress a secular party with few communal leaders: Fareeduddin

Former state minister and general secretary Pradesh Congress committee Mr. Mohammed Fareeduddin said that Congress is a secular party but there are some communal minded leaders in it. Muslims supported Congress in 1994 general elections. Addressing the Minority Convention at Gandhi Bhawan Mr. Mohammed Fareeduddin said that many leaders representing districts claimed they always voted for leaders belonging to majority community but when Muslims get the ticket, majority community does not vote for them. He too faced the same situation.

Recalling the 2009 elections he said, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had sanctioned him the ticket from Zaheerabad but the then chief minister Dr. Raj Shekhar Reddy told him that he had conducted 5 surveys which revealed that Muslim leader’s victory is impossible in that constituency. Hence he was asked to contest from assembly and he was given Amberpet assembly constituency ticket where Muslim votes are 33 thousand, but local Congress leaders played a significant role in his defeat.

He reiterated that although there are a few communal minded leaders in Congress but they could not execute their plans since the structure of Congress is based on the foundation of secularism.
