Congress releases list of 130 candidates

Hyderabad, November 06: After a two-day elaborate exercise by PCC president D Srinivas and Chief Minister K Rosaiah of finalising names of Congress candidates for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, the State Congress Committee today released the candidates’ list for 130 municipal divisions/wards as against a total of 150.

It has kept pending the names for the remaining 20 divisions for lack of consensus. Despite opposition from a section of city MLAs who included Raji Reddy, K Laxma Reddy and Bikshapathi Yadav, the PCC has given party ticket to S Harivardhan Reddy to contest from Habsiguda.

It may be recalled that these MLAs have lodged a complaint with Congress president Sonia Gandhi alleging `sale’ of party tickets by the APCC chief, health minister and GHCC president D Nagender and Home Minister P Sabita Reddy.

Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president D Nagender said that the candidates for remaining 20 municipal divisions would be finalised by tomorrow morning, the last day of filing of nominations.

In a press release here, the APCC said that selection of candidates was made in accordance with the guidelines framed by the AICC and after a review in the presence of AICC incharge of AP affairs M Veerappa Moily on October 31.

The APCC president has cleared the names after elaborate consultations.
