Kolkata: Senior Congress leader and ex-union minister Salman Khurshid said all parties should come together to defeat BJP in 2019. He said leaders of opposition must be ready to compromise and adjust. He said it is difficult in present situation for the Congress party to win on its own in the 2019 general elections, but any grand alliance must not be aimed at “containing Congress” and that all its constituents must make sacrifices and adjustments with the sole objective of defeating the BJP-led NDA.
Salman Khurshid said Congress is the only party which gets seats in the entire country while the other opposition parties get seats in their respective states only. He said Grand alliance is the need of the hour.
Khurshid’s statement came at a time when the opposition is trying to stitch a united front against the BJP before the 2019 elections. While BSP chief Mayawati has decided to go it alone in the upcoming assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh without allying with the Congress.
