Congress questions Centre’s ‘absurd’ statement on Dawood’s location

The Congress party on Tuesday said it is ‘absurd’ for the Government of India to say that it does not know underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s location.

“The embarrassment faced by this nation by this kind of uncoordinated statement by the government is a disgrace. The government ought to get their act together, coordinate their position and make it clear,” Tharoor told ANI here.

“Right now they have left Pakistan off the hooks on a matter where the government of every party since 1992-1993 have taken a consistent view that Dawood Ibrahim is in Pakistan and that must be obviously the case unless they have more intelligence and unless they don’t have that they should stick to the guns which the country has been sticking since two decades,” he added.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the Centre claiming to not know the whereabouts of Dawood Ibrahim is ‘laughable’.

“The whole world knows where Dawood Ibrahim is and the government doesn’t know. This is laughable. Let us not say ‘we don’t know where he is’ because it reinforces Pakistan negativisms,” he told ANI here.

“There are many sightings of Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai and Pakistan. You can say that we are unable to get him because of complexity of countries like Pakistan. Saying such things weakens India,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary informed the Parliament that Ibrahim’s whereabouts are unknown and an extradition process can only be initiated after he is located, contradicting a statement given by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who had assured that the government would take appropriate action to nab the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

According to reports, the gangster’s last traced location was Karachi and he used to travel to Dubai, but after an Interpol notice was issued against him, he stopped. (ANI)
