Congress promises sops for minorities in its draft manifesto

Hyderabad: Promising sops to minority communities in Telangana in a draft manifesto, the Congress announces to provide free electricity to churches and mosques, monthly payments to imams and pastors if it comes to power.

The draft of the manifesto has promised several schemes tailored for the minorities, especially Muslims. Promising that the party would make Urdu the “second official language” of the state if voted to power, it ensured that all government orders are issued in the language.

In its draft manifesto, the Congress states that it would establish three finance corporations for Muslims, Christians, and Linguistic & Other Minorities. It elaborated that under the Muslim finance corporation, the party said it would give Muslim youth opportunities to get government contracts, Rs 5 lakh financial assistance for construction of the house, Rs 20 lakh assistance to poor students for overseas study, judicial powers to Waqf Board as well as special residential schools and government hospitals.

The party promised to make it mandatory to have one member from the Muslim community in the Telangana State Public Service Commission. Imams and Muezzins of masajid will be given a monthly honorarium of Rs. 6,000.

However, News18 with reference to ANI has reported that the Telangana Congress party has vehemently denied authoring such a manifesto and claimed the document was ‘fabricated’.
