Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the protection and welfare of Muslims and other minorities were always the part of Congress agenda and he would follow it in Telangana.
In a live interaction with Congress party workers on social media platform Facebook on Wednesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy greeted the Muslims across Telangana on the beginning of holy month of Ramzan from tomorrow. He said that the Congress party believes that all sections of society, including Muslims, should get equal opportunities for growth and prosperity. He said Congress president Rahul Gandhi too advocates the same views. However, he said there has been rise in incidents of communal violence after BJP came to power at the Centre. He said BJP-ruled States like UP, Gujarat and Rajasthan have been witnessing more number of attacks on minorities. He said a sense of insecurity was being inculcated by the BJP, RSS and other outfits of Sangh Parivar. He also alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre was trying to divide the society on communal lines.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said only Congress party has the potential to fight and defeat the communal forces at the national level. Speaking about the condition of Muslims in Telangana State, he said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekahr Rao has cheated the community on the promise of 12% reservation. He said not a single promise made with the community has been fulfilled. He said 4% Muslim reservation, which was implemented by previous regime Congress, were still under implementation and so far, it benefitted lakhs of poor Muslims. He said 4% quota implemented by Congress has enabled lakhs of Muslims to get admission in prestigious colleges and the community got its share in all government jobs.
The TPCC chief appealed the Muslims to pray for the prosperity of all sections of the society and hoped that Ramzan month would further promote communal harmony in Telangana.
Uttam Kumar Reddy also alleged that the TRS Government has cheated STs too in the name of 12% reservation. He said that the promise of enhancement of quota for STs and Muslims has remained unimplemented for the last four years and the Chief Minister was not a position to explain the exact status of Reservation Bill which was passed in the Assembly and sent to the Centre.
The TPCC chief said that the promises of three acres of land for Dalits and STs and double bed room houses for poor were also not fulfilled. However, KCR Government is tying to create a wrong impression that it has fulfilled all the promises and resolved all problems.
Uttam Kumar Reddy thanked people for the success of Praja Chaitanya Bus Yatra. He said so far 35 Assembly constituencies have been covered and response has been tremendous in all the constituencies. He said that the ongoing phase of bus yatra would continue till May 19.
While supporting payment of Rs. 4,000 per acre to farmers under ‘Rythu Bandhu’, he asked TRS Government why these payments were not made to farmers during the last four years ago. Describing the new scheme as an election gimmick, Uttam Kumar Reddy said TRS Government’s neglect led over 4,000 farmers to suicide. KCR completely neglected the agriculture sector so far and just a few months before elections he is trying to convince farmers that he was their friend.
The TPCC chief also appealed all Congress workers to make effective use of social media. (INN)
