The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) will organise ‘Chalo Mallanna Sagar’ protest on August 7.
Briefing the media persons after TPCC’s meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, TPCC Vice-President Dr. Mallu Ravi informed that the Congress leaders would submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting Gajwel to participate in an official function. He said that the Prime Minister would be briefed about the forced land acquisition for Mallanna Sagar project.
Stating that the Congress party would not allow the State Government to take away even an inch of land forcibly from the farmers, Mallu Ravi alleged that farmers were being harassed and tortured by the police. He said two teams, led by Damodar Rajanarasimha and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, visited the affected villages on Monday and they found that no farmer has given away his land voluntarily. He alleged that TRS Government was forcing the policemen to behave like ‘Razakars’ to take away lands for Mallanna Sagar project. Those refusing to part with their lands are being tortured, he alleged.
Mallu Ravi also informed that the TPCC Coordination Committee will be held in Adilabad this month. Similarly, the TPCC Executive Committee meeting will be conducted in Karimnagar. He said all DCCs have been asked to constitute Mandal-level committees by August 9.
The meeting, chaired by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, was attended by senior leaders including Leader of Opposition in Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, PAC Chairman Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, MLAs DK Aruna and A. Sampath Kumar, ex-minister P. Sabitha Indira Reddy and other leaders. (INN)
