Congress pays tribute to Maulana Azad

On the occasion of 126th birthday of Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a function was held at Prakasham Hall, Gandhi Bhavan by Congress Party. Addressing the gathering, former MP and Incharge of Telangana Congress that it was Maulana Abul Kalam Azad who opposed the proposal of partition of India moved by Muslim League. He warned the Muslims that partition will damage the cause of Muslims. Mr. Gupta recollected that Maulana Azad is responsible for the establishment of Indian Council of Cultural Relations, University Grants Commission, Indian Council of Industrial Research, Indian Council of Historical Research, NCERT and other institutions.

Mr. P. Lakshmaiya, President of Telangana Congress Committee told that on one hand, Maulana Azad was a politician and on the other hand, he was an Islamic scholar and a journalist of repute. The writings of Al hilal and Al Balagh inspired the people who were struggling for Independence of India. He was architect of National Integration.

Mr. D. Srinivas, former President of PCC and MLC told that the reservation made for the Muslims is a gift from Congress. Enjoying this facility thousands of students have become Engineers and Doctors.

Mr. Mohammed Sirajuddin, Chairman of Minorities Department of Congress in his presidential remarks told that the communal parties and RSS were supporting the British and they were creating hurdles in getting independence. Today they assume power based on false promises. Commenting on the election promise of TRS to provide 12% reservation to Muslims, Mr. Sirajuddin said that Mr. KCR has yet not fulfilled this promise. He told that Congress does not need the support of MIM for Municipal elections in the city.

Mr. M.A. Khan (MP) termed Maulana Azad as the minaret of knowledge and a towering personality of 20th century. Earlier, Mr. Meer Hadi Ali, Vice Chairman of Congress Committee highlighted the activities of Minorities Cell of Telangana Congress Committee.
