Senior Congress leader and former Vice Chairman of Urdu Academy, Mr. S.K. Afzaluddin in a press note contradicted the statement made by Hafiz Peer Shabbeer Ahmed, MLC and President of Jameeatul Ulema of AP in which he had taken the credit of Muslims reservations for Jameeatul Ulema. He told that Peer Shabbeer Ahmed’s statement is misleading.
He reiterated that providing 4% reservations to Muslims is a historic deed of Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar’s Congress Govt. for which Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbeer, former Minister for Minorities welfare played an important role. Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbeer had made an effort for the inclusion of Muslims in the list of Backward classes. Mr. Khan Lateef Khan had commissioned the services of famous lawyer, Mr. Rajiv Dhawan for defending the case of Muslim reservations in Supreme Court.
Backward classes commission was constituted due to the efforts of Mr. Mohammed Ali Shabbeer. On the basis of the recommendations of Backward Classes commission, the scheme of 4% reservations for the Muslims gained strength. Today, the backward communities of the Muslims are deriving the benefits of 4% reservations.
It is therefore misleading that 4% reservations were provided on the representation of Jameeatul Ulema.
