Hyderabad, January 14: After MLAs, the Congress has now trained its guns on MLCs, who have been sailing with the YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh. The Congress today submitted a petition to Legislative Council chairman A Chakrapani, seeking disqualification of three MLCs Pulla Padmavathi, Kondru Murali and S V Mohan Reddy, for defying the party.
Though, another MLC Jupudi Prabhakar, too, has sided with Jagan, the Congress did not move any petition against him as he was nominated by the Governor and, hence, technically does not become a member of the party. It may be recalled that the Congress had filed petitions with Legislative Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar last month, seeking disqualification of 16 MLAs for voting against the government during the no-confidence motion. These petitions are pending disposal.
Incidentally, Konda Murali’s wife Surekha, an MLA from Parakal in Warangal district, is also facing disqualification proceedings. The couple has been the most vocal supporters of Jagan ever since the death of his father YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Council chairman Chakrapani said he would act on the disqualification petitions as per rules.
