Hyderabad, January 15: As expected, the Congress might not resort to disqualification of MLAs who are moving with former Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
PCC president D Srinivas today made it clear, while speaking to mediapersons: “The party has never said that it will disqualify Jagan Mohan Reddy’s loyalist MLAs though they made derogatory comments against party president Sonia Gandhi.” He dismissed the talk of disqualification as a rumour. “I want you to find our who has spread this rumour,’’ he said.
Asked about what the party would do to the ‘black sheep’ in the party he said: “I never said stringent action would be taken against them. I only said that the Congress high command was taking a serious view of their activities and will take a decision against them at an appropriate time. I hope they realise very soon that what they are doing was wrong. There is no threat to the Congress government in the state. Nobody can defeat us on the floor of the House,’’ he remarked.
After receiving orders from the All-India Congress Committee this afternoon that he would be continued as PCC chief until further orders, Srinivas said he would strive to strengthen the party in this ‘trying times’.
Replying to a query, Srinivas said that Congress needs to act tactfully against those who violate party’s discipline. “There is confusion in the party and we need better coordination. My goal is to strengthen the party. Though they (party members) have differences of opinion on the issues, they have liberty to express their views on an appropriate party forum. As for Telangana issue, the high command will look into it,’’ he said.
