Congress Rajya Sabha MP MA Khan on Wednesday slammed the State Police for withdrawing his personal security, without giving any intimation.
Talking to reporters in the Assembly premises, Khan said that the police have withdrawn his security cover on Monday evening without any notice. He said that the police officials did not even called him, as a courtesy, to cite the reasons for the decision. “I was at the airport to catch a flight to Delhi, when I received a call from my home about the withdrawal of security. I live in Madannapet, a communally sensitive area in the Old City and I was surprised by the decision of State police,” he said.
Khan said that although he believes that only God could ensure safety of all individuals, but as an MP he was entitled for personal security which has been withdrawn. Interestingly, he said that he spoke to Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy about the security being provided to him. “As a courtesy, he should have informed me about the decision and the reasons for doing the same,” he said.
The Rajya Sabha MP also ridiculed the DGP’s reported version that his mobile phone was not accessible. “I was in New Delhi to attend Parliament session and now I’m back in Hyderabad. I’m accessible to everyone, except the DGP,” he said.
Khan informed that a senior police official spoke to him on Wednesday stating that the security was withdrawn due to “some confusion”. However, he said there was no word from the police officials on whether the security would be restored. (INN)
