Congress MLAs boycott question-answer session of Guj Assembly

Gandhinagar, July 13: Members of Opposition Congress on Monday boycotted question-answer session of Gujarat Assembly and protested outside Speaker’s chamber against refusal of debate on hooch tragedy and suspension of their MLAs.

Congress members staged a sit-in in front of the State Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt’s office during the entire question-answer session.

They were protesting the Speaker’s refusal to debate the hooch tragedy, which has claimed over 120 lives, in the dry state of Gujarat.

The speaker has given consent to debate on hooch tragedy on July 17. However, the Congress members have demanded an early debate.

The Congress members were also protesting against suspension of their 17 MLAs from the House, out of which seven MLAs have been suspended for the entire session while ten others have been suspended till tomorrow, for unruly behaviour in the Assembly.

s The Congress has continued to protest in the Assembly over the hooch tragedy from Tuesday last, the day on which deaths were reported.
