In a bid to prevent defection of leaders from its party to other parties like TRS and TDP, the Congress leaders in the State are now resorting to lure new and enthusiastic leaders. They made it clear that the Congress has taken a decision to induct young blood into its fold. The young leaders should come forward and take up responsibility, they said, adding that the Congress will offer MLA, MLC and MP tickets to enthusiastic leaders.
They maintained that some leaders are leaving the party when the battle began. Though there is laxity of leaders, the party still enjoys the support of the people. “We will give the young leadership due importance”, said Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy. He disclosed the campaign schedule in Seemandhra to be taken from Srikakulam to Anantapur from March 21 to 27.
Addressing the media, Raghuveera Reddy appealed to the leaders to stay put in the party to contest and campaign for the Congress in the general elections. He said he will respond to Jana Sena Chief and actor Pawan Kalyan’s comments during the election campaigning. “Let any number of political parties join hands, we will win the battle”, he said. He said they have decided to campaign in two districts each day and one day alone in YSR Kadapa district. Earlier, he held a meeting at Indira Bhavan along with Election Committee Chief and Union Minister K Chiranjeevi and Manifesto Committee chief Anam Ramanarayana Reddy.
To begin with, the Congress will hold a meeting of Congress party activists at Srikakulam and Vizianamagaram on March 21, Raghuveera said, adding they are not averse to take in young blood into the party fold as that will spell its cast on the elections.
Other details of the campaign are: Visakhapatnam and East Godavari on March 22, West Godavari and Krishna March 23, Guntur and Prakasham March 24, Nellore and Chittoor March 25, Kadapa on March 26 and Nellore and Kurnool districts on March 27. Thus, the Congress is said to be peeved at YSRCP president Jagan Reddy’s campaign and tirade against the Delhi leadership. So it has decided to spend at least one day for campaigning in YSR Kadapa district. (NSS)
