Mumbai, April 18: Congress legislators, most of them from Vidarbha region, today met Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to express their concerns over a bill that allows diversion of irrigation water for industries.
The legislators, most of them from Vidarbha region, met Chavan at Vidhan Bhawan here to register their protest against the Bill, MPCC spokesperson Sanjay Dutt said.
“The legislators expressed their concerns and apprehensions over the Bill passed in the Assembly last week,” he said, adding that the meeting had nothing to do with any internal differences between ruling allies Congress and NCP.
NCP’s Sunil Tatkare is minister for irrigation.
Congress legislators feel the bill should be sent to a select committee before it gets cleared in the Council next week. MPCC president Manikrao Thakre was also present during the meeting, Dutt said.
