The Congress leaders on Monday paid rich floral tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi to mark his 21st death anniversary.
At a programme held at Gandhi Bhavan, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana recalled the services of Rajiv Gandhi to the nation. In his speech, the PCC chief stated that Rajiv Gandhi worked for unity and integrity of country and effectively tackled the vested elements who hatched a conspiracy to divide the nation. He also recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s services for the development of science and technology, particularly in the areas of telecommunication and computers.
Stating that the death of Rajiv Gandhi is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day, he asked the Congress leaders to fight against terrorists and communal forces, who are trying to divide the nation.
Participating in the programme, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the country would have beaten China in the development if Rajiv Gandhi would have lived for a few more years. He also recalled the services of Rajiv Gandhi for the development of agriculture sector. He called upon youth to follow Rajiv ideals to come up in their life.
Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha called upon party cadre to take Rajiv spirit to strengthen the Congress party.
Stating that the nation has lost a great leader, Union Minister for Overseas Affairs Vayalar Ravi said that the country has made rapid strides in Science and Technology during Rajiv’s regime. He said that UPA-II would realise the dreams of Rajiv Gandhi by implementing his schemes and programmes in a transparent manner.
Former PCC chiefs D Srinivas, K Kesava rao, M Satyanarayana Rao, Narsa Reddy and V Hanumantha Rao, Ministers Danam Nagender and J Geetha Reddy, Deputy Mayor Raj kumar and former Mayor B Karthika Reddy also paid rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi. (INN)
