New Delhi: After the party leader Rashid Ali declined to contest from Amroha, the Congress on Monday announced that Sachin Choudhary will be the party’s candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha parliamentary constituency in place of Rashid Alvi. As per the eighth list of candidates released by the Congress on Saturday night, Mr Alvi was the candidate from Amroha.
Mr Alvi, a former spokesperson of the Congress, has been a member of the Lok Sabha from Amroha (1999-2004) and a two-term Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh.
Though Rashid Alvi has said that there are some personal reasons behind not contesting the elections, sources believe that he refused to contest in fear of defeat. Bahujan Samaj Party has named Danish Ali, Janata Dal Secular’s ex-general secretary, as its candidate from Amroha.
