Hyderabad, February 11: Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas today reiterated that the Congress was committed to providing four per cent reservations to Muslim minorities and said that the State Government would take enough care to ensure that no injustice would be done who had availed the facility in securing jobs or seats in educational institutions.
After discussing reservations to Muslims in the wake of the High Court quashing the quota at an agriculture review meeting here with the ministers concerned, Srinivas told media persons that the PCC legal cell will provide the Government the relevant data to help it build a strong case in the Supreme Court against the High Court judgment.
He maintained that the four per cent reservations given to Muslims were not based on their religion but on their socio-economic status. “Even some groups who are Hindus have reservations,’’ he pointed out.
He said that the PCC farmers’ cell will submit a report to the State Government on the problems the farmers were facing and ensure their redressal.
The committee was also examining what promises had been fulfilled and what were still left that were made in the Congress manifesto so that corrective action could be ensured.
Srinivas said he had discussed the issue of power supply to agriculture pumpsets with Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy and the issues related to animal husbandry with K Parthasarthy, who heads the department as its minister.
He said the State Government was seriously considering providing nine-hour power supply to farm sector as promised by late YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
He said the first meeting of the coordination committee headed by Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily to bridge the gap between the Government and the party will take place at Gandhi Bhavan on Feb 17, two days after the commencement of the Budget session of the Assembly.
