Targeting the UPA Government, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Congress Party is incapable of taking India forward.
Addressing the concluding session of the BJP”s National Council meeting here, Modi said: “The UPA Government is incapable of taking the nation forward. This government in Delhi is a big challenge for us. In spite of our being there, India should have such a government – that is not acceptable.”
“The Congress Party has not done anything for the country. They did not intend to lead the country on the path of progress. Inflation has killed the country…the poor have nothing to eat, and in Delhi, we can”t even feel there is a government,” he added.
Modi further said the Congress tradition is to sacrifice the interests of the country for one family.
“They even sacrifice the interests of the party,” he added.
Continuing his tirade against the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi said, “They appointed a night watchman by naming Manmohan Singh as PM.
“They had Sitaram Kesri as the Congress president; did you feel the Congress had a president? It was as if they had a night-watchman… Sitaram Kesri was unceremoniously thrown out when the time was right… When they formed the government, they chose a PM who could be manipulated? And then, another night-watchman…and they did not think the night had become so long,” he added.
Modi while favouring Pranab Mukherjee over Manmohan Singh said: “Had Pranab Mukherjee been the prime minister, there would have been less destruction in the country.”
Asserting that Gujarat”s victory is not the victory of a single person, Modi said: “It is the victory of the dedicated efforts of lakhs of workers of the BJP. It is the victory of the BJP”s ideology that has stood the test of time, of our people”s faith in our political culture.”
“The honour and love that was shown to me yesterday at the BJP”s National Council meeting, the credit for that must go to the lakhs of workers, the people of Gujarat and our national leadership,” he added.
BJP President Rajnath Singh had on Saturday lauded Modi for achieving a third consecutive victory in his state and enabling the main opposition party to create a new record in the Indian democratic history.
“As far as I remember, the BJP has not registered a third consecutive victory in a state under one person”s leadership in the Indian history till date. You all know that we achieved a third electoral victory in Gujarat under Narendra Bhai”s leadership. He achieved a hat-trick and in true sense we all were very happy when the Gujarat results were out,” said Singh in his address at the BJP”s National Council meeting.
“We all were overjoyed for we had not seen the Bharatiya Janata Party achieve a third consecutive victory under one person”s leadership,” he said.
“His government has earned praise from the international world, be it America, considered to be the most developed nation, or the European countries, all have praised his development model and good governance,” he added.
The BJP President”s remark came amid growing chorus within the main opposition outfit that Modi be given a larger in national politics and made the party”s Prime Ministerial candidate in 2014. (ANI)
