The Congress party will hold a rally in the capital in the second week of April. The rally will be led by party president Sonia Gandhi over farmer issues.
“In the Congress General Secretaries meet, it was decided that the party will hold a big scale farmers rally. The plight of farmers is known to everyone. Besides land bill, crop damage due to rainfall is another problem, hence the rally. Although the date remains undecided, the rally will be held in the second week of April, will be addressed by party President Sonia Gandhi,” said Congress leader Janradhan Dwivedi.
Earlier in the day, Sonia Gandhi met the farmers of Bhandwa village in Haryana ‘s Bhiwani district and assessed the loss suffered by them due to the unseasonal rains. She urged the government to provide timely compensation to the farmers.
The farmers on their part were happy that the Congress president heard their woes.
Meanwhile, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh is visiting Maharashtra today to make an extensive tour of the areas affected by heavy rains and hailstorms. (ANI)
