New Delhi: In its bid to step up the attack on the Modi dispensation, the Congress will hold a series of programmes including press conferences and demonstrations across the country on the issues of demonetisation and “personal corruption” of Prime Minister.
Starting on Thursday next, top Congress leaders will hold pressers at all district headquarters to be followed by similar conferences at the district level across the country on January 2 and 3.
Thereafter, it will hold meetings of the Pradesh Congress Committees and and the party workers will gherao various district headquarters on January 6 and 7. It was earlier planned on January 5 but was postponed on account of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.
This will be followed by “thali pradarshans” at Block level to be organised by Mahila Congress workers on January 9.
The programme was finalised at a meeting of top party leaders on December 26 chaired by Rahul Gandhi.
The “personal corruption” by the Prime Minister and sufferings of common people due to demonetisation will be highlighted during these pressers.
Thursday’s press conferences will be addressed by Ambika Soni at Jammu, C P Joshi at Lucknow, Shakeel Ahmed at Kolkata, Gurudas Kamath at Ahmedabad and Randeep Surjewala at Jaipur.
Besides, B K Hari Prasad will address a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, K Rehman Khan in Guwahati, Salman Khurshid at Patna, Pratap Singh Bajwa at Dehradun, Raj Babbar at Jalandhar and Shobha Oza at Shimla.
The final press conference will be addressed by P Chidambaram on December 30 in the national capital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while announcing the decision to invalidate 500 and 1000 rupee notes on November 8 had said there would some inconvenience to people for the initial 50-day period that ends on December 30.
