Dehradun (Uttarakhand) : Reiterating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has murdered democracy in the Uttarakhand, former chief minister Harish Rawat on Monday alleged that the Congress government was ousted in an unconstitutional manner.
“Our government is mandated by the people. Our budget was prepared for the people. We told the Governor that the dismissed government still has complete majority. The Governor asked us to prove our majority. Our government was ousted in an unconstitutional manner. The BJP is inherently murdering the ideals of the Constitution and in Uttarakhand also, they have murdered democracy. We hope that the governor will consider all our requests,” Rawat told media here.
“We went to present two memorandums signed by 34 MLAs to Governor. We explained to Governor that the Speaker acted on the behest of all the rules and procedures. We quoted relevant sections supporting the Speaker’s actions. We expressed our discontent on terming the appropriation bill invalid,” he added.
Rawat, earlier today met Governor K.K. Paul to discuss the overall situation in the state.
The rebel group of the Congress MLAs while supporting President’s rule in the state said what they did was for the people of the state.
After almost seven days of verbal battle between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the political crisis in Uttarakhand, President’s rule was imposed in the hill state on Sunday.
The Congress had dubbed the cabinet meeting as the last phase of the drama scripted by the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP). (ANI)
