Telangana Congress president Ponnala Lakshmaiah today expressed happiness over the poll results of Municipalities and Municipal Corporations in the new State.
Talking to media at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Lakshmaiah maintained that the Congress is strong in Telangana State as the results of municipalities reflect them. The Congress Chief rubbished the comments of rival parties that the Congress is losing sheen in Telangana in the wake of bifurcation. He said the Congress will see similar results in the local bodies of MPTCs and ZPTCs to be announced on Tuesday.
Lakshmaiah asserted that the Congress could win 23 Municipalities as the people trusted his party. General activists are our star campaigners and the credit of the results goes to them, he said. The party activists taken up campaigning on welfare and developmental programs of the government during its 10 years stint, he said. The people are with us and will help us come to power, he said. He hoped the Congress would win majority of seats in MPTCs and ZPTCs elections too.
He also exuded confidence that the Congress will get majority of the seats in General Elections in the Telangana State and form the government. Thus, he asserted that the people of the region reposed their faith on our party and we must be thankful to them. He ridiculed the TRS claim that it would get top position but managed to get third position in the municipalities. The Congress got the support of the people who are thankful for giving statehood to the region, he added.
