Hyderabad, December 30: Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas held a meeting with the presidents of district and city Congress committees, PCC district coordinators, PCC office-bearers and heads of PCC frontal organisations at Gandhi Bhavan today to review the party’s membership drive.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah, MP and Pradesh Returning Officer Sudarshan Natchiyappan, AICC incharge of AP affairs KB Krishna Murthy and MP KVP Ramachandra Rao attended.
The PCC, which launched enrollment in August last year, targeted to enroll 30 lakh members by December 31 this year. The date has been extended to Jan 10 in view of the unrest in the State. The previous membership of the State Congress stands at 34 lakh.
Briefing newsmen later, Natchiyappan said the present membership would be valid for the period 2010-2013. The organisational polls for the State Congress will be held from Jan 19. Elections will be held for from booth committees to PCC presidentship.
The PCC president urged the DCC, CCC presidents and others concerned not to take the issue (membership drive) lightly but to strive for achieving the targets before the deadline. The party has targeted to enrol atleast 50 members in each of the polling booth (total 56,000 booths in AP) to achieve the target.
