Congress demands judicial probe into OU student’s suicide

Hyderabad: The Congress party on Monday demanded probe through a sitting judge of High Court into the incident of alleged suicide of E. Murali, a student of Osmania University.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here, Deputy CLP leader T. Jeevan Reddy and TPCC chief spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan held TRS Government responsible for the incident and demanded that a case be booked against Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for the incident.

They said that the TRS came to power by promising to provide more than one lakh jobs. Despite completion of more than three-and-a-half years, not even 20,000 vacancies were filled.

They said students and youth were highly disappointed with the functioning of present government and have lost hopes of getting jobs which consequently drove Murali to suicide.

The Congerss leaders strongly condemned the police action in the premises of Osmania University on Sunday night.

They said such a situation was never witnessed even during the regimes of united Andhra Pradesh.

They said TRS Government was not permitting any rallies or meetings and misusing police force to suppress the students’ voice.

They said police illegally entered into the premises of university hostels in late night hours and took several students’ leaders into custody.

Sravan alleged that the suicide note released by the police to media was fake. He also questioned the presence of DCP V. Satyanarayana in OU premises and asked what the South Zone DCP was doing in East Zone.

He said Murali was a bright student and secured 9th rank at the State-level to get admission into M.Sc (Physics) in

Osmania University. Therefore, the contention of police that he committed suicide due to exam fear was totally wrong.

He said unemployment was the main reason behind suicide and TRS Government and police have been trying to hush-up the issue.

The Congress leaders demanded payment of Rs. 50 lakh as ex-gratia to the family members of Murali besides providing government job to one family member.

Sravan also condemned the illegal arrest of 27 students including congress spokespersons Addanki Dayakar, Manavatha Roy, Daruvu Yellanna, Durgam Bhaskar, TDP Leader Gajwel Prathap Reddy. (INN)
