Congress corporators intensify lobbying for Mayor’s post

Following the resignation of GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain, over half-a-dozen Congress corporators have intensified lobbying for the post.

As per the power sharing agreeement of sharing the top tow posts by turns, the Mayor’s post would now be acquired by the Congress party while the MIM would get its candidate elected for the Deputy Mayor’s post. Sources say that the Congress itself took the initiative in asking the MIM to vacate the post. PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana has reportedly written a letter to MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi last month requesting him to honour the agreement by vacating the Mayor’s post. Responding to the request, the MIM chief on Thursday announced that Majid Hussain would resign from the post.

Majid Hussain’s resignation would be accepted in a special meeting of the corporation to be held on March 22.

Meanwhile, several corporators including former mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, Hafizpet corporator Jagdeshwar Goud, former minister Mukesh Goud’s brother G Madhu Goud and floor leader D Rambabu are the among the top aspirants. Sources say that they are lobbying hard with GHMC Congress president Danam Nagender and MLC Mohammad Ali Shabbir to get themselves nominated as the Congress candidate.

The Congress corporators are also pressuring the PCC chief to make Deputy Mayor G Rajkumar to resign from the post. The MIM has reportedly conveyed that it was not keen to nominate its candidate for the Deputy Mayor’s post. Therefore, the Congress corporators are making efforts to win the top two posts of the GHMC. (INN)
