Mumbai, May 08: A Congress corporator was killed by two unidentified assailants at Bhayander in neighbouring Thane district this morning. Praful Kashinath Patil (51) was shot on his back from a close range and also attacked with choppers, police said.
The four-time member of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, who also runs Abhinav College, was attacked in the college premises, they said. He was rushed to the nearby Tunga Hospital in Mira Road, where he was declared dead, police said.
A property dispute is suspected to the cause of the murder, civic sources said. The 79-member civic body is ruled by the Congress-NCP alliance.
