Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia today challenged Chief Minister Narendra Modi to come forward for a public debate on union government’s financial allocation to the state. Addressing a news conference here this evening, Mr Modhwadia refuted Mr Modi’s allegation that the Congress-led UPA government was meting out injustice to the state while making financial allocations.
He said that UPA government had more than doubled its allocation in comparison to erstwhile NDA government at the centre. He said ‘Either Mr Modi accept our challenge for public debate or call a special session of Gujarat assembly to discuss the issue.’ Mr Modhwadia said that Mr Modi was trying to divert people’s attention from the infighting in ruling BJP in the state by making such allegations.
He said that the UPA government had allocated Rs 60,000 crore to the state against NDA government’s Rs 26,000 crore. Referring to state BJP’s forthcoming campaign against union government ‘Anyay Hatao, Gujarat Bachao’, Mr Modhwadia said that whenever Mr Modi is cornered politically or legally, he uses people of Gujarat as his shield.
The BJP is doing this in view of assembly elections, he noted. He said that during Mr Modi’s regime corruption to the tune of Rs one lakh crore has been detected. Even Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has mentioned the corruption of Rs 42,351 crore in the Modi administration.
If an independent inquiry is instituted to look into these charges of corruption, Mr Modi and many of his cabinet collegues may have to go the jail, he added. UNI
