Hyderabad, December 28: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah today said ”only the Congress party can curb anti-social elements, both internal and external, and protect the welfare of the people.” Participating in the 125th Formation Day celebrations of the Congress party here, Mr Rosaiah said the party had always looked after the welfare of all sections of people in the country.
He garlanded the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan, the party headquarters in the state, and also at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) office here.
He said several stalwarts of the party had strived hard to strengthen the party in the country and leaders like former Prime Ministers, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed their lives for the nation.
The Chief Minister said AICC President Sonia Gandhi rejected the prime ministership twice and decided to work for the people and also strengthen the party. Pradesh Congress Committee President (PCC) President D Srinivas called upon the partymen to work hard to strengthen the party and not indulge in any anti-party activities.
He said the leaders should not make any statements against the party interests in the present situation which would weaken the party.
Later, the Chief Minister and PCC President unfurled the party flag at the party headquarters where several rank and file of the party and office bearers participated.
