Congress calls shutdown in Chhattisgarh over hike in property tax

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) has called a state-wide shutdown on Friday to protest against the ‘unreasonable’ hike in property tax by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in all civic.
“This is for the first time that the people are themselves supporting a shutdown. One of the ministers had said that the increased tax would be taken back while the other says that there would be an increase of ten percent. There is anger amongst people, and the government is confused on the hike in property tax in the state,” a protestor told ANI.

“The BJP in its manifesto had said that they won’t increase the property tax. They are now taking revenge from the people for defeating the BJP in the municipal elections,” he added.

The Congress Party may proceed to court if these taxes are not deduced because the base line in this property tax is absolutely baseless.

The decision to observe the state-wide shutdown was taken by the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee ( CPCC) at a meeting of the mayors, presidents and elected corporators of all Congress-ruled corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayat. (ANI)
