Congress accuses PM Modi of playing ‘partisan politics’ in Bangladesh

The Congress on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of playing ‘partisan politics’ during his recent visit to Bangladesh.

“Prime Minister Modi hasn’t been politically correct or politically honest. He has played partisan politics with his visit to Bangladesh. His excluding the Chief Ministers of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya shows a very petty mindset. In his speeches and statements, he has tried to rewrite pages of history by not acknowledging with respect the great contribution and sacrifice of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,” said Congress leader Anand Sharma.

The Congress leader further said that the Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh is a ratification of an exchange of instruments.

“The Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh is a ratification and exchange of instruments. The MoU, the protocol, was signed on 7th September 2011 between Dr. Manmohan Singh and Sheikh Hasina. I am happy that Prime Minister Modi is taking forward all what has been agreed, as is expected of a nation to honor its sovereign commitments,” he said.

“It’s a fact of history that it was Indira Gandhi who had stood up in support when there was repression in erstwhile East Pakistan. Indira Gandhi supported Bangabandhu Mujibur Rahman who was in prison. Indiasupported the liberation movement,” Sharma added.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi certainly doesn’t have qualities, gravitas, or grace that statesman have. More than once the PrimeMinister said “I want to congratulate Sheikh Hasina that she’s

fighting a war against terrorism despite being a woman. Was Prime Minister Modi trying to say that women are cowards and their courage needs to be validated by an Indian Prime Minister?” he said. (ANI)
