Congress accuses Centre for failing to pass beneifts to public

Hyderabad: Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge has raised a question in Lok Sabha pertaining to Central government’s failure to pass on the benefits acquired from extra revenue collected by the Government.

While addressing the matter in Lok Sabha on Thursday, Centre was accused of failing to pass on the benefits it collected from extra revenues by raising excise duty on Petrol and diesel.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the price of crude oil in 2014 was $110 per barrel two months before BJP came to power which had since then dropped to $40 in June 2016 and to $60 on Wednesday.

He said despite the drop in crude price, the Petrol and Diesel prices have not reduced since BJP came to power and instead, excise duty on diesel was increased to 386 per cent while on petrol the price was increased by 126 per cent.

“You have earned Rs 1.62 lakh crore annually and Rs 5.50 lakh crore in total so far. No benefit has reached the people so far, while the extra revenue has gone to public exchequer,” he said during the Zero Hour, reported DC.
