Congress on 2 years of Modi govt: ‘Only Bhashan, No Shasan’

New Delhi: Launching an all-out attack on the Narendra Modi government as it completes two years in office, the Congress party said the government’s agenda is “only bhashan, no shasan (only speeches, no governance)”.

Addressing a press conference, senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Kapil Sibal and Randeep Surjewala rubbished BJP’s claims of having brought about a change in the country in the last two years.

“Why this – two years of Modi government – is being celebrated? What is there to celebrate? Have jobs being created, do farmers get 50% profit over and above the input cost, is there safety in the country?,” said Kapil Sibal.

Chiding the Prime Minister, Sibal quipped: “Kiska saath, kahan hai vikas.”

PM Modi gives a ‘bhashan’ every 45 hours but he has not answered a single question, he added.

Earlier, Ghulam Nabi Azad elaborated on the “failures” of the Modi government.

“Investment is low, food inflation, job creation is lowest. They promised 2 crore jobs and people got only 1.35 lakh. Exports also falling. There is major agricultural distress. But the government has done nothing to help farmers, especially in this time of drought,” he said.

“Make in India is an abject failure, Babbar Sher is a meow cat,” Azad said ridiculing one of PM Modi’s pet initiatives.

The Congress leader said two years of Modi government have been full of hollow promises, adding the alliance has been thriving on advertisements. “This government has become famous for repackaging UPA schemes because they are incapable of conceiving a new scheme,” he said.

Big achievements of this government are creation of social tension, provocation by BJP leaders, unnecessary controversies, mob violence, the Congress leaders said.

“This government has been spreading fear. Dalit, women, students are living in fear,” they said.
