Cong worker injured in attack

Kannur: A 64-year-old Congress worker was today injured in an attack allegedly by BJP activists at Panthalayinikunnu in the district, police said.

Sukumaran of Pattiyam near Kottiyodi in the district was opening the door of his bakery when a group of six men attacked him with iron rods in which he suffered fractures on his legs and hands, police said.

He has been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Co-operative government hospital at Thalassery.

Police suspect that Sukumaran keeping open his bakery when a hartal was being observed by the BJP in the area last week, could be the reason behind the attack.

No one has been taken into custody and further investigations are on, police added.
