Jaipur, February 09: The ruling Congress in Rajasthan won the maximum number of wards in 33 zila parishads and 248 panchayat samitis, giving a jolt to opposition BJP in the state.
Out of the 994 results declared till afternoon in 1,013 wards-led zila parishads, the Congress won 601, the BJP 354, Independents 36 and BSP 3.
Similarly, out of 5,273 wards in panchayat samitis, the results for 5,094 were declared. The Congress won 2,478 wards followed by BJP 1749, Independents 764, BSP 53, and CPI-M 50.
The remaining results would be out by evening, a state election commission spokesman said today.
Opposition BJP lost the assembly polls in 2008, and it further faced humiliating defeat in civic bodies’ polls late last year.
When contacted, state BJP President Arun Chaturvedi said there was nothing new in the results as the previous panchayat poll outcomes always favoured the ruling government.
