Cong will survive, but Regional parties: Ponnala

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah today said the Congress would get its past glory in the near future. Being the national party, the Congress was spreading in all States while the regional parties cannot do so, he said.

Launching membership drive along with former Ministers Danam Nagender and Shabbir Ali at Gandhi Bahvan here on Saturday, Lakshmaiah alleged that some regional parties were hatching conspiracies for power. He pointed out that many leaders in the regional parties were with the Congress earlier. Though some leaders quit the party, it will rejuvenate itself and increase its cadre base, he said.

Some regional parties wrested power in the name of sentiment while some others were pretending to be national parties for power, he charged. “The people will not encourage power politics any longer and the Congress alone would come back to power”, he said. The Congress party will strengthen itself at all levels and membership will continue, Lakshmaiah said. He also charged that some regional parties were making false promises and playing with lives of the people. He appealed to the party activists to take on the TRS for failing to keep its promises. The TRS is now playing politics and failing to keep the promises made, he alleged. He slammed the TRS for failing to merge into the Congress after formation of Telangana State, he charged. (NSS)
