Hyderabad, July 28: The Congress will keep its promise on Telangana even if it were to lose the by-elections in 12 Assembly constituencies, voting for which took place on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons at Assembly premises, senior Congress leader T Jeevan Reddy said that the party will stand by its campaign promise on Telangana whether it wins or loses the by-polls.
The former minister said that PCC president D Srinivas and the rest of Congress party members have made some promises to the people of Telangana in favour of a separate state, during campaigning and they will have to abide by those promises.
He revealed that the party High Command had directed him to campaign for the Congress and he had done so tirelessly, even though he was not in favour of the party fielding any contestants.
Mr Jeevan Reddy said that his tireless campaigning stemmed from his hope that the Congress would make the separate Telangana dream a reality.
The senior leader said that he wanted the Srikrishna Committee to take Mr Srinivas’s opinion as the official Congress opinion on the future of the state.
